1st week Peer-Graded Assignment
For this first assignment, I was supposed to choose the data set and create a research question.
I decided to use the Gapminder dataset.
In my country, specifically in the area where I am from, there is a general conception that people from the countryside, or less urbanized areas have a tendency to be binge drinkers.
I believe this is a misconception, so I decided to use the following dataset to answer the question: Does the rate of urbanization directly affect the consumption of alcohol by the population?
Tumblr media
The Unique Identifier is the Country name
To start, I went looking for additional literature on the issue. I used the terms: Urbanization, drinking habits, alcohol consumption, substance consumption, substance abuse, alcoholism.
Most of the articles that I found were somewhat outdated and were focusing on specific populations, but generally what they found is that the consumption of alcohol is bigger in more urbanized areas.
In a 2010 study about  the consumption of substances by Slovak adolescents, the authors, Pitel, Geckova and vanDijk state that there is a likelihood of adolescent health endangering behaviors in higher urbanized areas (1)
In another study, from 1996, Takano, Nakamura and Watanabe also found that the alcohol consumption between Japanese women increased in a direct connection with urbanization. (2)
A more comprehensive study was published in 2005 by WHO. The study is not only focused on drinking, but on the impact of substance use by young people  in urban environments. They do identify several other risk variables to young people when it comes to substance abuse, but it is clear that urbanization is directly linked to increasing the consumption. (3)
After that research, I developed the hypothesis that countries with higher urban rate have a tendency to have higher alcohol consumption by the population. And that is what I will try to show by analyzing the data set.

Sept 29 2022 | 0219
Dear God,
I don’t know where to start, but I know writing diaries growing up has helped me. I know that I need this more than ever.
I married the love of my life, but he comes with a manipulative & abusive mother. For 2 years, she fights with Dae about me for the most insignificant reasons. It has gotten to the point last December that I had enough and told Dae that I can no longer live with her and that she has to move out for our marriage to work. The deal was she had to move out by May.
She didn’t exactly move out in May. She moved all her belongings in the garage. Since then for the last 4 months, she would take out of state newborn doula assignments out of state and then ask Dae and I if she can stay in our home for a few days.
In August, she asked if she can stay for 2 weeks before she goes on a month long contract in NY. Dae and I made an agreement that she can stay for 2 weeks, but when she comes back, she can no longer stay with us and must have her own place.
The other day, she comes back. Dae asks me if she can stay another day. Turns out he completely forgot our agreement and NEVER told his mom that she cannot stay with us and must find her own place when she comes back from NY. I became livid and set my boundary. He said she will be leaving the next day.
Yesterday, I was doing laundry and his mom comes in to ask me can she stay another day cause she’s tired. I told her no because I keep doing this the last 4 months and that it’s time for her to find her own home. I was even more livid.
Dae comes home and they fought—and I was beyond done. He comes into the room and we talk. He asks me if his mom can stay another day. I don’t know how to respond because I was at the point of anger and losing my mind, so I screamed at the top of my lungs. He gets even more mad and said that it’s a yes or no question. I told him that it’s been a fucking no since August and that I am beyond livid.
Out of anger, he punches the window in our bedroom. By this point, I shut down. He storms out of the room, punches another wall, and tells his mom to get out. By this point, I was set on leaving him. I didn’t want to live like this anymore. He comes back into the room and then walks out of the room. I follow him downstairs, he stops at the bathroom, and I said, “I can’t keep doing this. I can’t go back to the constant abuse and negativity with your mom like what happened last Christmas. We need to think what’s best for us. I can’t keep fighting over your mom like this. We need to think what’s best for Max.”
I walked back up the room and just laid in bed. His mom leaves. He eventually comes back a few hours later and says, “I’m sorry sweetheart. I should have been more stern with mom.”
I forgave him.
I know he chose me because he clearly told his mom to leave and she left. It’s his anger that gets me. In the beginning of our relationship…when he got angry, he would just yell at the top of his lungs that slowly turned to slamming his hands on a table to then throwing an item across the room to then punching holes in the wall. And now he broke a window. I also know I provoked his anger by screaming at the top of my lungs. What if we fight again and his anger gets to the point he puts his hands on me?
I don’t know what to feel. I don’t know what to do. As much I still love him, I just know that I don’t want Max to grow up around this.

Happy Birthday - Jungwoo
Tumblr media
Genre: Fluff
Word count: 990
[0219] Ah, happiest birthday the cutest baby ;~; congratulations for making your debut, love 💚 let’s be together for a long, long time! (also for @happybirthdayjungwoo my darling!)
It was another sudden idea you had in mind, escaping the hectic schedule for a tiny while late into the night by asking your boyfriend to go to the beach, one of your favourite places to wind down. He seemed to share the feeling of burden with his workload lately since he didn't even think twice to rev the car's engine and started driving toward the destination, two hours away from the crowded city.
Across where you seated on the soft and damp sand next to each other, the vast sea stretched far into the horizon; a rippling blanket of darkness, its glistening surface reflecting the pale yellow light of the moon. The sound of crashing waves a soothing music to your ears, all the piled up stress you had was gone and washed away with it. "Is it cold?" Jungwoo turned his head to look at you, the usual lazy smile adorning his beautiful face. Chilly ocean breeze blew right past the both of you again as soon as he muttered his question, making you chuckle and nodded your head to answer. He reached out to grab your arm, tugging gently, gesturing you to move and sit in between his legs as he opened them a bit wider, making more space for your figure.
His arms immediately wrapped themselves around your waist, your back pressed flush against his chest. In contrast with the cold, whistling wind, fresh and salty to the smell, he was warm and comfortable. He nuzzled his nose on the crook of your neck, brushing against your soft skin in a delicate manner, inhaling the scent of yours he loved a little too much for his liking; it made him constantly miss you when you were away from each other.
“How are you holding up, hm?”
He pressed a chaste kiss to a patch of skin below your right ear. “Better now that you’re here with me.” lifting his head up, he placed his chin on top of your shoulder and gave you another peck on the cheek, making your smile widened.
“You’re doing great. Just another week until your internship ends, right?” you tapped his cheek with your palm. He mumbled an affirmative response, leaning into the warmth of your hand he had been deprived from since the two of you couldn’t meet each other as often.
Minutes ticked and passed by in silence, you feeling fully contented being engulfed in his embrace in the relaxing atmosphere. Constant beat of his fingers drumming on your thighs lulled you into a serene feeling, your eyes felt heavier with each second of his faint humming next to your eardrum.
Your eyes glanced to the watch on your wrist, seeing its needles pointing at 10 minutes before midnight.
“Do you wanna go back to the car?”
Jungwoo tilted his head to the side to look at your face, big eyes blinking like a puppy. “Why? Is it too cold out here?”
“It’s freezing, come on let’s go~”
You freed yourself from his hug, bringing him to stand up with you. Honestly, you still wanted to spend some more time but you already prepared something for him inside your bag in the backseat of the car. He let you intertwine your fingers with his and led him towards where the car was parked. Confusion was obviously written on his face when you told him to seat on the hood and covered his eyes with a scarf instead of getting inside to go back home.
“No peeking!” you reminded him as you fumble with the candles and the cake. The cake was still in one decent piece, thankfully, and you didn’t forget to bring match to light the candles.
“You’re not going to leave me here alone, are you?”
You snorted, trying so hard not to laugh and possibly ruining the cake if you did. “Really now, what kind of question is that!”
Settling yourself in between his legs once again, you stood facing his front this time. “Now you can open your eyes!”
“Oh?!”
Blinking a few times to make his eyes focus to you, the adorable shocked expression decorated his sleepy face as he saw you grinning, holding a small birthday cake to his face. “Make a wish and blow the candles.”
He closed his eyes, making a sincere prayer before he blew the candles and clapped his hand excitedly. “When did you buy this! Why didn’t I know about it?”
“Did you forget your own birthday, Kim Jungwoo?” you lifted an eyebrow, asking him teasingly. The boy just shrugged, crinkling his nose.
“I have you to remind me of it exactly like this.”
You glared but he only laughed, taking the cake from your hands and put it aside. He pulled your body close, hugging you tightly and mumbled a thank you, kissing the top of your head. You nodded with a smile, happy to celebrate another birthday by his side.
The adoration and love could be seen in his eyes as he leaned forward, capturing your lips in a gentle kiss. His lips were hot against yours, moving in a slow pace, relishing on the feeling. Your heart pounded faster against your chest, he never failed to make you feel giddy and warm inside with his touches. You suppress a moan when his tongue delved into your mouth, deepening the kiss. His hands were planted firmly on your hips, the only thing keeping you from falling; your legs felt like jelly the longer he kissed you senseless.
You were both gasping for air as you broke the kiss, his forehead still pressed to yours, eyes staring deep into your soul.
“I love you. Happy birthday.”
A broad smile once again crept to his mouth, with another kiss pressed against your lips for the last time before he completely abandoned you to stuff his stomach with his favorite cake you bought exclusively just for the birthday boy.

Denmark maybe just starting to get on top now. The entire middle of the pitch opens up so the ball can run to Martin Braithwaite. He charges forward uncontested and has a shot from just outside the box which his former Middlesbrough team-mate Darren Randolph saves.

This free-kick must be almost 35 yards out but Christian Eriksen still has a pop. Darren Randolph gets down well to palm it behind for a corner, although I’m not certain whether it was going in.

The Republic of Ireland have not lost in their last four away games with Denmark, keeping a clean sheet each time (W1 D3).
The last time they lost in Denmark – or conceded a goal – was in November 1984 when they lost 3-0 in World Cup qualifying.
The Republic have lost just one of their last eight matches against Denmark (W2 D5), keeping six clean sheets in the process. However the game they lost was a 5-1 play-off defeat in Dublin which cost them a 2018 World Cup place.

The Republic of Ireland have won their two matches without conceding since Mick McCarthy’s return as manager – both 1-0 against Georgia and Gibraltar in qualifying.
It took nine games for McCarthy to register two wins in his first stint (D3 L4).
The Republic have won as many competitive games in their last two games (two) as they did in the previous 12 (D6 L4).

A lack of goals?
Only one of the current Republic of Ireland squad have hit double figures in international goals – James McClean with 10.
Robbie Brady is the next top scorer with seven – and after him it’s Shane Duffy, Glenn Whelan and Jeff Hendrick on two each.
None of the four players listed as forwards have scored an international goal.
Shane Long, who has scored 17 times for the Irish, is injured.

4 Ways to Relieve Stress at Work
Tumblr media
Anxiety got you down? Snap out of it with these easy stress-relievers.
by Shannon Spence
No matter what time of the year it is, stress always finds us. The National Stress Institute reports that 80% of workers feel stress at work and nearly half say they need help learning how to manage stress.[1] In honor of National Stress Awareness Month in April, we’re sharing simple ways to reduce on-the-job anxiety and help you have happier work days. Give these a try anytime, whether you’re under a tight deadline or just want to practice having more of a work-life balance.
Download a relaxing app
These days, we have access to almost everything at the tip of our fingers, which can be good and bad. On the bright side, there are a variety of apps that can help you relax and unwind anytime, anywhere. Stop, Breathe & Think, for example, is a Go365-compatible app that provides goals, incentives and tips to help you maintain a mindfulness practice (think yoga, meditation, and journaling). Simply connect to the compatible app, set a weekly mindfulness log in the Go365 App, and earn up to 10 Points per week for meditating. To be eligible for Points, go through at least three full meditations in the Stop, Breathe & Think app each week. If journaling is more up your alley, download The Five-Minute Journal for $4.99. This Go365-compatible app can also be used to set a weekly mindfulness log, and entails journaling about your day in the morning and at night.
Perform a self-hand massage
Giving your hands some love can work wonders for you, especially when you rely on them so much. Take five minutes to complete the exercises below. You won’t regret it!
Pinch the tips of each finger and thumb on your right hand for a few seconds. Repeat on your left hand. The pressure applied to your fingers should be firm, but not painful.
Go back to each tip and pinch them again, this time squeezing from side to side.
Grasp each finger at its base and tug firmly. Allow your grip to loosen slightly, from the base to the fingertip, until your finger slips out of your grasp.
Using your thumb and index fingers, grasp the webbed area between your thumb and index on the other hand. Keeping a firm hold, tug at the skin gently until the fleshy web snaps away from your grasp. Repeat on all fingers.
Rest the palm of your hand inside the palm of your free hand. Use your thumb to massage the back of your hand. Continue thumb massaging each area on the back of each hand.
Cradle your wrist inside your free hand. Use your thumb to massage the inner wrist. Repeat on other hand.
Massage the palm of each hand with your thumb.
Press your thumb firmly in the center of your palm. Take a few deep breaths and center yourself.
Watch a funny video
How can you not crack a smile or have a chuckle when watching a dog perform tricks or a little kid learning how to ride a bike? Research suggests that laughter has both long- and short-term health benefits, including an improved immune system, better sense of self and enhanced mood. Even if you can’t access YouTube at work, read a cartoon, share a joke with a co-worker or Google funny images. Whatever floats your boat!
Read inspiring quotes
When you’re running low on positive vibes, there’s no better way to give yourself a boost than peeking into the minds of great people. It helps to know that even the more privileged among us have experienced similar struggles. Start with these well-organized sites: ThinkExist, BrainyQuote
It’s easy to overlook the impact that stress has on our well-being when deadlines and personal stressors get in the way. (There are just not enough hours in the day!) But making time to relax and regroup can only help your efforts to get the job done, and get it done in a way that won’t harm your health.

Drones: How New Technologies Impact Laws and Regulations
By Lexi Brock, University of Georgia Class of 2021
February 4, 2019
Tumblr media
The first aerial photo was taken in 1858, only 32 years after the first true photograph was captured. [1] The idea of breathtaking photos taken far above the ground is not a new concept. However Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), once thought of as futuristic, have become accessible and relevant in recent years. With the popularity also comes public hysteria and a new set of laws doing the best they can to regulate how, when, and where drones are used.
Just a few weeks ago over 40 flights at Newark Airport were delayed due to reported drone sightings from Southwest and United Airlines pilots. The Federal Aviation Agency was not able to confirm the sightings that many have deemed unlikely. This may be because of other false cries of drone sightings around the globe, specifically the incident at Gatwick Airport. Gatwick, the second busiest airport in the United Kingdom, was shut down for alleged drone sightings. After further investigation and lengthy holiday travel delays, no drones were found. Police even said that there was a possibility that absolutely no actual drones were involved in the incident. [2]
There is no shortage of public hysteria surrounded drones, and rightfully so. Many false reports and even untruthful doctored videos have contributed to this fear and one’s right to privacy is always being questioned. The issue with these fears is that they can often lead to strict rules and regulations that have in the past violated the constitutional rights of United States Citizens specifically journalists.
In recent years we’ve seen drone ownership surge. As of January 2018, 1 million drones were registered with the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA). The FAA was trusted with the daunting task of regulation Unmanned Aircrafts Systems (UAS) or what the general public refers to as drones. Drones have presented themselves as affordable technological alternatives to news choppers, and in turn gained popularity among small and large news organizations alike. Commercial drone operators, like those employed by news organizations, must have Part 107 license and follow FAA guidelines while in the air. They often run into issues regarding their first amendment right to freedom of speech and expression and their fourth amendment right that forbids unreasonable search and seizure.
Pedro Rivera was detained by Hartford Police after using a drone at the scene of car accident. Later Officer Brian Foley informed Rivera’s boss about the incident and urged him to take disciplinary action against Rivera. Rivera then sued Brian Foley and The Hartford Police Department ‘alleging violations of Plaintiff`s Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable seizures and his First Amendment right to freedom of expression pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983.’ The limited and unclear laws surrounding drones made for an interesting final decision in the suit. “For the foregoing reasons, Defendants' Motion to Dismiss [Dkt. 20] is GRANTED in part and DENIED in part. The Court construes Plaintiff`s Complaint to allege a Section 1983 prior restraint claim against Officer Foley based on Plaintiff`s allegations that Officer Foley acted to compel Plaintiff`s suspension from his job as a photographer and editor.” According to Brendan Schulman, an attorney who specializes in drones, there is simply no federal regulation dealing with the commercial use of drones. It isn’t to say that it is not allowed or that it is. [4]
Originally the main concern of the FAA was safety, but as drones become a more popular technology citizens are concerned about privacy. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration was asked to create a list of ‘Voluntary Best Practices for UAS Privacy, Transparency, and Accountability.’ As the FAA focuses on the safe integration of drones into society many of these voluntary practices are expected to become law.

Service and Skills Save Lives
This post talks about my experiences in basic life support training in the past, how important basic life saving is and a few things to remember and do in an emergency.
This week’s topic is something that is very close to heart. Growing up I always wanted to become a doctor and save lives, with that, I became active in volunteering for medical missions and in fact, pioneered an organization in our senior high school called the Health Allied Association where we are consisted by aspiring medical professionals and we trained for basic life support. At first, we are just a group of students who really want to help each other out in pursuing our medical careers. However, we also realized that being in that line of profession needs a heart of service and basic skills in order to be front liners for health in our school and community. The videos on basic CPR, situational analysis and first aid brought me back to when we had workshops and seminars related to basic lifesaving such as first aid, bandaging, CPR, and team building with the Red Cross Youth. It was all a fun experience and a fulfilling one knowing that what we learned could actually save somebody’s life someday.
Accidents and emergency may happen at any given time and place. It is always important that everyone should know exactly what to do and the basics of first aid. This quick response ensures that any form of injury or unconsciousness of a person could be dealt beforehand and prevent their situation from getting worse until a medical professional arrives. One of the most important steps of basic save saving is to call for help on the emergency hotlines below:
Philippine Red Cross: 143 or (02) 8527-8385 to 95
National Emergency Hotline in the Philippines : 911
Philippine National Police Hotline: 117 or (02) 8722-0650
Bureau of Fire Protection: (02) 8426-0219 or (02) 8426-3812
Note that lifesaving is not only limited to medical emergencies so we also need to remember these hotlines and make sure to follow their instructions while help in on the way.
In conclusion, basic lifesaving is something that everyone should be learning from their homes, schools and community. Realizing this, opened an idea that our organization should share these knowledge and skills to our fellow schoolmates so they may share these things too to their family and community. We may not be medical professionals but with the right heart to serve and importantly the skill to do basics of lifesaving, we can help the persons in need of medical assistance.
